Mitchie Torres and the Gray brothers return to Camp Rock for another summer of music, only to find that a rival camp has opened across the lake. Camp Star is a slicker, better-funded operation, and it has drawn away many of Camp Rock's instructors and campers, leaving the camp's future in doubt. When Camp Star's star performer, Luke Williams, challenges Camp Rock to a musical showdown, the two camps prepare to compete for the title of the more talented outfit. Alongside the contest, Nate becomes smitten with the daughter of Camp Star's owner.
The film is a Disney Channel television musical directed by Paul Hoen, the eighth of the sixteen features he has directed in chronological order, following Dadnapped and preceding Let It Shine. Dan Berendsen, Karin Gist and Regina Y. Hicks wrote the screenplay, and Kevin Lafferty produced. Demi Lovato, Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas and Kevin Jonas lead a credited cast of 63, with Daniel Fathers as camp owner Brown Cesario and Daniel Kash as Axel Turner, Camp Star's proprietor. Released in September 2010, the sequel runs 104 minutes.
Audience response has been modest: on IMDb it holds 5.3 out of 10 from roughly 23,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.3 from about 1,600 votes. A small set of eight critics' reviews averages 6.1, placing the critical score above the IMDb figure but slightly below the TMDB one.
