Fighting with My Family

Fighting with My Family follows a wrestling family in a small English town. Ricky and Julia, former wrestlers who run modest local shows, have raised their children, Zak and Saraya, inside the sport. Both siblings dream of reaching the big time, and when the chance comes to try out for World Wrestling Entertainment, they seize it. Only Saraya wins a place in the training programme, and she must move away from everyone she knows to face a demanding coach and a punishing schedule on her own, while Zak stays behind and struggles with being left out.

Stephen Merchant directed and wrote the film, his second feature after Cemetery Junction. Florence Pugh plays Saraya, who performs as Paige, with Lena Headey and Nick Frost as her parents, Jack Lowden as Zak and Vince Vaughn as the coach. Dwayne Johnson, one of the producers, appears as himself. The production brought in about 39 million dollars worldwide against an 11 million dollar budget, a strong return for a mid-budget comedy. On IMDb the film holds a higher critics' rating of 7.2 from 244 reviews than its audience score on TMDB, where it sits at 6.8 from roughly 1,900 votes, a modest gap that suggests critics responded somewhat more warmly than general viewers.
