The Count of Monte Cristo

Edmond Dantès is a young sailor who is unjustly imprisoned due to a conspiracy by those jealous of his success. After spending many years in captivity, he manages to escape with the help of a fellow prisoner and discovers a vast hidden treasure. Now immensely wealthy, he assumes the identity of the Count of Monte Cristo to infiltrate high society and systematically seek revenge against the people who betrayed him.

This historical drama was directed by Claude Autant-Lara, appearing in his career after Devil in the Flesh and before A Woman in White Revolts.
