Mazinger Z: Infinity

Ten years after Koji Kabuto and the giant robot Mazinger Z ended the threat posed by the evil Dr. Hell, Koji has followed his father and grandfather into science. His work brings him to a strange life form buried deep beneath Mount Fuji, and with it a new danger. As the fate of humanity comes under threat again, Koji must decide whether to return to the cockpit of Mazinger Z and confront a choice he has faced before.

Junji Shimizu directed this 2017 Toei Animation production, his eighth feature after a run of films including several One Piece entries, Zatch Bell! 101st Devil and Pretty Cure titles. Takahiro Ozawa wrote the screenplay, with Kazuomi Nagai and Hiroshi Kanemaru producing. The voice cast is led by Showtaro Morikubo as Koji Kabuto, alongside Ai Kayano, Sumire Uesaka, Toshihiko Seki, Ami Koshimizu and Junpei Morita, among 22 credited performers.

Released in October 2017 and running 95 minutes, the film is an action, animation and science fiction work from Japan. Its worldwide box office stands at around 3 million USD, a modest return. Audiences are divided: on IMDb it holds 5.9/10 from roughly 2,200 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7/10 from about 355 votes. A critics' rating of 6.7/10 from five reviews places it closer to the lower audience figure than the higher one.
