Sam Law and Crab Chan are longtime friends and two of Asia's most skilled gamblers. When they are called to the United States to help a casino identify a group of Japanese players who have been winning heavily against it, they make enemies of the men behind the scheme. Back in Hong Kong, the consequences catch up with Crab, leaving him unable to play, while Sam marries into a wealthy family and steps away from the tables. He is drawn back when Crab needs him, setting up a final, high-stakes contest with the Yakuza in which the two men's friendship is put to the test.
Casino Raiders is a 1989 Hong Kong action drama directed by Wong Jing, who wrote the screenplay with Jimmy Heung Wah-Sing. The two also produced the film alongside Wallace Cheung Kwok-Chung. It was Wong Jing's second film as director in chronological order, following God of Gamblers the same year and preceding God of Gamblers II in 1990. The cast is led by Alan Tam as Sam Law and Andy Lau as Crab Chan, with Idy Chan Yuk-Lin, Rosamund Kwan, Lung Fong and Charles Heung among the thirty-eight credited performers.
The film runs 125 minutes and was released in Hong Kong in June 1989. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.6 from 649 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 6.5 from 29 votes, indicating a modest but settled level of audience appreciation for a title from this period of Hong Kong cinema.
