Family Is Family

Valentin Duquesne is a successful Parisian architect and designer known professionally as Valentin D. He has built a life among the city's cultural elite alongside his wife, Constance Brandt, and hides the fact that he comes from a working-class family of scrap metal dealers in northern France. He lets people believe a different story about his origins. His brother Gustave, who is short of money, persuades the family to travel to Paris, where they turn up during a retrospective exhibition of Valentin's work. A car accident then leaves Valentin without his memory of the past two decades, and he reverts to the person he was before he set out to conquer Paris.

The film is a comedy directed by Dany Boon, who also stars as Valentin and co-wrote the screenplay with Sarah Kaminsky, and produced it. It is the fifth film he directed, following Welcome to the Sticks, Nothing to Declare, Superchondriac and R.A.I.D. Special Unit. Line Renaud plays Valentin's mother Suzanne, Laurence Arné plays Constance, Valérie Bonneton plays Louloute, Guy Lecluyse plays Gustave and François Berléand plays Constance's father Alexander. Filmed in France for Pathé and running 107 minutes, it drew modest audience scores of 5.8 on IMDb and 5.8 on TMDB from roughly five thousand and under eight hundred votes respectively, while a small group of six critics rated it 4.1 out of 10.
