Short description
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile tells the story of Ted Bundy through the eyes of Elizabeth Kloepfer, a single mother who met him in 1969 and fell into a relationship with a charming, handsome law student. For years she believed in the man she loved, even as women disappeared across several US states and Bundy was arrested and accused of terrible crimes. She refuses to accept the truth about him for a long time, while he insists he is innocent and eventually defends himself in a televised Florida trial.
The film is a crime drama directed by Joe Berlinger, his third narrative feature after Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 and the documentary Metallica: Some Kind of Monster. The screenplay is by Michael Werwie. Zac Efron plays Bundy, with Lily Collins as Liz, alongside Kaya Scodelario, Jeffrey Donovan, Angela Sarafyan and Dylan Baker. It was produced by Voltage Pictures, Ninjas Runnin' Wild Productions and COTA Films, with Berlinger among the producers.
Released in 2019 and running 111 minutes, the film drew a mixed response. On IMDb it holds 6.7 out of 10 from over 100,000 votes, and on TMDB it has 7 out of 10 from a few thousand votes, while critics rated it 5.7 out of 10 across 188 reviews, a lower figure than audiences gave it.

- Scenes in the law school library were filmed at the University of Kentucky College of Law.
- At first, Zac Efron declined to play Ted Bundy, believing that portraying such a physically attractive person would be a kind of glorification of the killer. Ironically, Ted Bundy gained notoriety as a serial killer precisely because of his physical attractiveness.
- The courtroom scenes were filmed in the Covington, Kentucky, USA post office building, which once housed a federal district court.
- Prison scenes were filmed in correctional facilities in the states of Ohio and Kentucky.
