Short description
Fifteen-year-old Charlotte Flax is tired of her wacky mom moving their family to a different town any time she feels it is necessary. When they move to a small Massachusetts town and Mrs. Flax begins dating a shopkeeper, Charlotte and her 9-year-old sister, Kate, hope that they can finally settle down. But when Charlotte's attraction to an older man gets in the way, the family must learn to accept each other for who they truly are.
What's left behind the scenes
- This film was to be the first American film by director Lasse Hallström, until he clashed with leading actress Cher and was replaced by Richard Benjamin.
- Christina Ricci's debut film.
- The role of Charlotte was intended for Emily Lloyd, who was to receive $435,000 and 2.5% of the box office receipts. When Cher expressed dissatisfaction that the blonde Lloyd did not resemble her daughter, she was removed from the cast and replaced by Winona Ryder. Lloyd later won a substantial sum of money from the studio in court for her dismissal from the film.
- The original director, Frank Oz, was also replaced at Cher's request.
