Mavka: The Forest Song

Mavka: The Forest Song is a Ukrainian animated fantasy adventure about a spirit of the forest who guards a life-giving source hidden from the human world. When she meets a young musician named Lucas, the two fall in love despite the ancient rules separating their worlds. Their bond is tested when a greedy factory owner named Kylina builds near the forest and sets out to destroy it, forcing Mavka to choose between her feelings and her duty as guardian of the forest's heart.

Directed by Oleksandra Ruban and Oleh Malamuzh, the film follows the pair's earlier feature The Stolen Princess, released in 2018. The voice cast includes Natalka Denysenko as Mavka, Artem Pyvovarov as Lucas, Nazar Zadniprovskyi as Lesh, Oleh Skrypka, Olena Kravets as Kylina and Serhii Prytula, with a credited cast of 20. It was written by Jeffrey Hylton and Yaroslav Voytseshek and produced by Animagrad Animation Studio with the Ukrainian State Film Agency, 3Beep and FILM.UA Group.

Made for about 5 million dollars, the film took roughly 18 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 6.6 out of 10 from around 7,200 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.2 out of 10 from 862 votes. A critics' rating of 6.2 out of 10 from 13 reviews places it somewhat below the audience scores.
