Set years after the events of Starship Troopers: Invasion, Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars finds Johnny Rico reassigned to a satellite station above the red planet, where he is put in charge of training a squad of raw recruits. Mars has stayed largely untouched by the war against the giant alien bugs, and its soldiers have grown complacent, faring badly even in simulation exercises. That calm ends when the insects launch a full assault on the colony, leaving Rico and his inexperienced troopers to hold the line. Meanwhile, Sky Marshal Amy Snapp quietly pursues her own political ambitions behind the scenes.
The film is a computer-animated entry in the Starship Troopers series, directed by Shinji Aramaki, who had previously helmed Starship Troopers: Invasion, and co-directed by Masaru Matsumoto. Edward Neumeier, a longtime writer on the franchise, wrote the screenplay. Casper Van Dien and Dina Meyer voice Johnny Rico and Dizzy Flores, reprising roles they played in the 1997 live-action film, with DeRay Davis, Justin Doran, Luci Christian and Emily Neves among the voice cast. Produced by Stage 6 Films with Sola Digital Arts and Lucent Pictures Entertainment, it runs 87 minutes. Reception has been modest: on IMDb it holds 5.5/10 from roughly 6,900 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.9/10 from around 338 votes, with critics landing close to the audience at 5.5/10.
