Dragon Fist is a martial arts drama from 1979. After his teacher is killed in a duel by a rival master, the student Tong Huo-Wan promises to avenge him and care for the man's widow and daughter. Three years later he sets out with the two women to find the killer, only to discover that the man has punished himself harshly out of guilt. The widow falls ill, and to pay for her medicine Tong takes work with another clan. That arrangement draws him into a local feud involving gangsters and a conspiracy he does not at first understand, leaving him caught between his duty to his adoptive family and the demands of justice.
Lo Wei directed the film, the eighth in the directing career the facts cover, arriving after a run of martial arts pictures that included The Big Boss, Fist of Fury, New Fist of Fury, To Kill with Intrigue and Spiritual Kung Fu. Wang Chung-Pin wrote the screenplay, and Lo Wei produced with Hsu Li-Hwa for Lo Wei Motion Picture Co. Jackie Chan plays Tong Huo-Wan, with Nora Miao, James Tien Chuen, Im Eun-Joo, Yen Shi-Kwan and Mu Szu-Cheng among a credited cast of twenty-four.
Made in Hong Kong and Taiwan and running 97 minutes, the film carries modest approval: 6 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 3,200 votes, and 6.3 out of 10 on TMDB from about 91 votes, an audience response that marks it as a routine entry in the genre rather than a standout.
