Blue Ice

Harry Anders is a former British intelligence officer who now runs a jazz club in London. He begins an affair with Stacy Mansdorf, the American wife of a diplomat, and she asks him to track down a man from her past who has been threatening to make her private letters public. Anders turns to old contacts, but the search leads to murders and draws him into a cover-up involving corruption at the highest levels of the intelligence services, forcing him to rely on the skills of his former life.

Blue Ice was directed by Russell Mulcahy, the fifth of fourteen films he directed in chronological order, following Ricochet in 1991 and preceding The Real McCoy in 1993. Michael Caine, who also produced alongside Martin Bregman, stars as Anders; Sean Young plays Stacy, with Ian Holm, Bob Hoskins, Todd Boyce and Jack Shepherd among the twenty credited cast members. The screenplay was written by Ted Allbeury and Ron Hutchinson.

Released in October 1992 and running 105 minutes, the film was made in the United Kingdom and the United States for HBO Films. Audience response has been modest: on IMDb it holds 5.2 out of 10 from about 1,900 votes, and on TMDB 5.3 out of 10 from a small number of votes.
