Batman: Gotham by Gaslight

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight is an animated thriller set in an alternative Victorian-era Gotham City. Bruce Wayne has returned from a trip through Europe to find his hometown in the middle of an industrial boom, celebrated by a world's fair he has financed. Beneath that prosperity, a killer is attacking women in the city's dark alleys, striking with both brutality and precision. The press names him Jack the Ripper, and as the murders pile up, suspicion even falls on Batman himself. While Commissioner James Gordon struggles to calm the public, Bruce takes up the cowl and investigates, aided by Selina Kyle.

The film was directed by Sam Liu, the fourteenth of the twenty-two films he has directed in chronological order, following Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay and preceding The Death of Superman. Jim Krieg wrote the screenplay, and Liu also produced. Bruce Greenwood voices Bruce Wayne and Batman, with Jennifer Carpenter as Selina Kyle, Anthony Stewart Head as Alfred, Scott Patterson as James Gordon, John DiMaggio as Chief Bullock and Yuri Lowenthal as Harvey Dent.

Released in January 2018, the film runs 78 minutes and was made on a budget of about one million dollars, earning roughly three million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 6.7 rating from around 20,000 votes, and on TMDB a 6.7 from a much smaller base of voters. The critics' rating stands at 6.6 from twelve reviews, close to the audience scores.
