Daniel is a twenty-year-old who finds a sense of spiritual purpose while serving a sentence in a youth detention centre. He wants to become a priest, but his criminal record closes that path to him. Sent to work in a carpentry workshop in a small town, he puts on a priest's clothing on arrival and is mistaken for the new parish priest, a role he goes along with. Preaching with sincerity rather than training, he becomes a focus for a community still divided by a tragedy that took place a year earlier.
Jan Komasa directed the film, working from a screenplay by Mateusz Pacewicz. It was Komasa's third feature, following Suicide Room and Warsaw 44, and starred Bartosz Bielenia as Daniel, alongside Aleksandra Konieczna, Eliza Rycembel, Tomasz Zietek, Barbara Jonak and Leszek Lichota.
Made for about one million dollars, the film took roughly ten times that amount at the worldwide box office. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.7 from around 24,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.6 from 629 votes. A critics' rating of 8.1 from 105 reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores.
