Short description
Daniele Dominici is a professor of poetry and a gambler who moves to the coastal town of Rimini for a short-term teaching assignment at a local high school. While his relationship with his partner Monica is failing, he finds himself drawn to one of his nineteen-year-old students, Vanina Abati. This attraction creates a conflict, as Vanina is the girlfriend of Gerardo, one of Daniele's gambling acquaintances. The story follows the emotional connection between the teacher and student amidst a bleak provincial atmosphere.
Directed by Valerio Zurlini, this drama is the second film in a chronological list that began with Girl with a Suitcase in 1961. Zurlini also co-wrote the screenplay with Enrico Medioli. The movie stars Alain Delon in the lead role as Daniele, alongside Sonia Petrovna as Vanina and Giancarlo Giannini as Giorgio Mosca. The supporting cast includes Renato Salvatori, Alida Valli, and Adalberto Maria Merli. Produced by Sergio Bonotti through Adel Productions and Mondial Televisione Film, the production is a collaboration between Italy and France. What's left behind the scenes
- The director and screenwriter Valerio Zurlini and Alain Delon (who played the lead character, philology professor Daniele Dominice) did not get along, and for a significant portion of the filming period, they communicated with each other exclusively through Zurlini's assistant.
- The French version of the film differs significantly from the Italian version because Alain Delon introduced certain changes during the editing process. Many years later, he publicly expressed regret for his actions.
