Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez

Ludovic Cruchot, a gendarme from a small Alpine village, is promoted and transferred to the coastal resort of Saint-Tropez, bringing his daughter Nicole with him. Eager to prove himself, he throws himself into policing the town's easygoing summer life, from traffic offences to sunbathers who refuse to keep their clothes on. His enthusiasm quickly wears thin on the local gendarmes, who had grown used to a quieter posting.

Cruchot's troubles at home are just as pressing. Nicole, dazzled by the wealth around her, tells her new friends that her father is a rich yacht owner, a lie that draws her into the company of a gang of thieves. What begins as a teenager's attempt to fit in soon entangles both father and daughter in the criminals' plans.

Jean Girault directed and co-wrote the film with Jacques Vilfrid. It was Girault's second feature in chronological order, following Squeak-squeak in 1963 and preceding Let's Rob the Bank the same year. Louis de Funès plays Cruchot, with Geneviève Grad as Nicole, Michel Galabru as Gerber and Claude Piéplu among the supporting cast. Made in France, the comedy runs 89 minutes and took about 11 million dollars worldwide. It holds a 7.1 rating on IMDb from roughly 15,000 votes and a 7 on TMDB from around 957 votes, a similar reception from both audiences.
