The Amityville Murders

The Amityville Murders dramatizes the killings that took place in Amityville, New York, on the night of November 13, 1974, when Ronald "Butch" DeFeo Jr. shot his parents and four siblings as they slept. At his trial he claimed that voices inside the house had ordered him to carry out the killings. The film follows the household in the period leading up to that night, centering on Butch's strained relationship with his domineering father, his wish to leave home, and the isolation and drug use that accompany his growing troubles.

Daniel Farrands wrote and directed the film, and also produced it with Eric Brenner and Lucas Jarach. It was his third feature as director, following the documentaries Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy and Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th, and it precedes The Haunting of Sharon Tate, Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman and Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman. John Robinson plays Butch, with Diane Franklin and Paul Ben-Victor as his parents, Louise and Ronald Sr., and Chelsea Ricketts, Zane Austin and Noa Brenner as his siblings.

The film runs 97 minutes. Reception from viewers has been modest: it holds a rating of 4.7 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 2,600 votes, and 5 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller pool of around 160 votes.
