Lucky Day
Short description
After serving two years in prison for a bank robbery that resulted in the death of his partner, a safe cracker named Red returns to his wife and daughter. His attempt to restart his life is interrupted by Luc, the brother of his former accomplice. A psychopathic contract killer, Luc begins a violent campaign of revenge against Red and those close to him.
Directed and written by Roger Avary, this 2019 production follows his previous work on Killing Zoe and The Rules of Attraction. The film stars Luke Bracey as Red, Nina Dobrev as Chloe, and Crispin Glover as Luc, with supporting roles played by Ella Ryan Quinn, Clé Bennett, and Clifton Collins Jr. A joint effort between Canada, the United States, and France, it was produced by companies including Grindstone Entertainment Group and Téléfilm Canada.
Audience reception was mixed, with the film receiving a 5.1 rating on IMDb from 4,000 votes and a 5.4 on TMDB from 181 votes. These scores are higher than the rating provided by film critics, who gave the movie a 3.5 based on 11 reviews.
What's left behind the scenes
- Executive producer Samuel Hadida (1953-2018) and director Roger Avery had known and been friends for many years. Therefore, when Hadida suddenly passed away shortly after completing work on the film, Avery dedicated the film to the memory of his friend, who appears on screen after the final credits – it’s the man who is asked to remove his sunglasses at the bar.
- A shopper from Beijing, Mrs. Cox, mentions an artist named Chang Chen. In reality, this is not a proper name. For hundreds, even thousands of years, this has been the name used for the Great Wall of China. Therefore, when Mrs. Cox talks about copies and fakes, she means the numerous souvenirs for tourists.
- The one hundred and four scratches on Luke's lighter indicate the number of weeks he spent in prison.
