Andhadhun centres on Akash, a blind pianist in India who earns money giving music lessons while preparing for a competition in London. A chance meeting at a restaurant leads to steady work there, and one evening his playing draws the attention of Pramod Sinha, a former Bollywood actor who has moved into real estate. What follows embroils Akash in a web of mysterious events surrounding a crime he never actually witnessed, forcing him to navigate the consequences.
Sriram Raghavan directed and co-wrote the film with Hemanth M. Rao, placing it between Badlapur and Merry Christmas in his filmography. Ayushmann Khurrana plays Akash, with Tabu as Simi Sinha, Radhika Apte as Sophie and Manav Vij as Inspector Manohar Jawanda. Anil Dhawan appears as Pramod Sinha. The production, from Viacom18 Studios and Matchbox Pictures, was made on a budget of about 5 million USD and went on to gross roughly 65 million USD worldwide, a strong return relative to its cost.
Audience response has been warm: on IMDb the film holds 8.2/10 from 115,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.6/10 from 652 votes. A critics' rating of 7.7/10 from 15 reviews sits close to the audience scores. A credited crew of 41 worked on the 139-minute film, which blends comedy, crime, mystery and thriller elements.
