Monsoon Wedding

Monsoon Wedding centres on the Verma family in New Delhi as they prepare for the arranged marriage of their daughter Aditi. Relatives converge on the city from Australia, the United States and elsewhere, bringing with them competing ideas about tradition and modern life. Aditi's father, Lalit, is under pressure over the cost and scale of the four-day celebration, while Aditi herself has reservations about the match with Hemant, an engineer who arrives from Houston. A professional event planner is hired to manage the proceedings, and the gathering of the extended family stirs up old tensions and secrets as the monsoon rains approach.

Mira Nair directed the film from a screenplay by Sabrina Dhawan, with Caroline Baron, Nair and Robyn Aronstam producing. It was released in 2001, arriving between Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love and September 11 in Nair's filmography and following Salaam Bombay! and Mississippi Masala.
