Ron's Gone Wrong

Ron's Gone Wrong is set in a world where a tech company has made a digitally connected robot, the B-bot, into a near-universal companion for children. Barney, a middle-schooler who struggles to fit in with his peers, finally receives one of his own, but his robot, Ron, turns out to be defective, behaving nothing like the sleek, socially fluent models everyone else owns. Rather than trade him in, Barney sets out to teach Ron himself, and the pair's efforts to pass as normal send them off on an adventure together.

The film was directed by Sarah Smith and Jean-Philippe Vine, from a screenplay by Peter Baynham and Smith, and produced by Lara Breay and Julie Lockhart for Locksmith Animation and DNEG Animation. It was Smith's second feature as director, following Arthur Christmas a decade earlier, and Vine's first. Jack Dylan Grazer voices Barney, with Zach Galifianakis as Ron, and Ed Helms, Olivia Colman, Rob Delaney and Justice Smith among the supporting cast.

Released in October 2021, the film runs 107 minutes. Made for a budget of about 57 million dollars, it took roughly 61 million dollars worldwide, a modest return. Audiences have been warmer toward it than critics: it holds a 7.1 rating on IMDb from around 45,000 votes and a 7.9 on TMDB, against a critics' score of 6.7 from 103 reviews.
