This documentary focuses on the 2016 effort to reclaim Mosul, the self-proclaimed capital of the Islamic State in northern Iraq. Bernard-Henri Lévy and his crew accompany members of the Iraqi Golden Division and Kurdish units as they fight through the streets to liberate the city of two million people. While the military operation is successful, the film explores the diverging goals and hopes between the Kurdish fighters and their allies.
Produced by François Margolin, the film marks the start of the directorial work of Bernard-Henri Lévy, who later directed Slava Ukraini in 2023 and Our War in 2025. The project provides a firsthand account of the war through the perspective of the filmmaker and his team. Audience reception has been poor, as reflected by a 2.5/10 rating on IMDb based on 522 votes.
