Billion Dollar Brain follows Harry Palmer, a former British intelligence officer who now runs his own detective agency. Asked to take on a job for his old superior, Colonel Ross, he becomes caught up in a scheme to bring down communism with the help of a large computer. The trail leads him from Scandinavia to Latvia and on to the United States, where he encounters the KGB's General Stok and the wealthy anti-communist General Midwinter, who commands a private army.
The film was directed by Ken Russell, the first of the fifteen features he directed in chronological order, ahead of Women in Love in 1969. John McGrath wrote the screenplay, and Harry Saltzman produced. Michael Caine plays Palmer, with Karl Malden, Ed Begley, Oskar Homolka, Françoise Dorléac and Guy Doleman among the thirty-eight credited cast members. It is a British production running 111 minutes.
The film is a spy thriller from the late 1960s. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.9 from around 6,600 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.7 from about 127 votes, with both audiences landing in similar territory.
