3 from Hell continues the story of the Firefly family, the murderous clan at the centre of Rob Zombie's earlier films. Baby Firefly, Otis Driftwood and Captain Spaulding survive a violent confrontation with the police, only to end up imprisoned for their crimes. Their time behind bars does not last: with help from Otis's half-brother, the family breaks out and sets off across the United States once more, leaving destruction in its wake.
Rob Zombie wrote, directed and produced the film, his ninth feature and a return to the characters of House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects after several intervening projects. Sheri Moon Zombie, Bill Moseley and Sid Haig reprise their roles, joined by Richard Brake as Winslow Foxworth Coltrane, Emilio Rivera and Jeff Daniel Phillips. The production was small, with a budget of 3 million USD, and it earned 2 million USD worldwide, less than its cost.
Audience responses were modest: on IMDb it holds 5.4/10 from 20,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.8/10 from 556 votes. A film critics' rating of 5.5/10 from 36 reviews places professional assessment close to the audience scores, with neither group rating it highly.
