The Day Shall Come centers on Moses Al Shabaz, who leads a tiny religious commune called The Star of Six in Miami with his wife, Venus. The group has only a handful of members, rejects firearms, and preaches against crime while Moses dreams of overturning the government. Facing eviction and unable to support his family, he accepts money from a stranger offering to fund his revolution, unaware that his benefactor is connected to an FBI agent who intends to encourage his revolutionary ideas in order to make him a criminal.
The film is a comedy directed by Chris Morris, who also wrote the screenplay with Jesse Armstrong. It is Morris's second feature, following Four Lions in 2010, and it was produced by Anne Carey, Emile Sherman and Iain Canning. Marchánt Davis plays Moses, with Anna Kendrick, Pej Vahdat, Danielle Brooks, Rodney Richardson and Jim Gaffigan in supporting roles.
Released on October 11, 2019, the film runs 87 minutes and was made through Film4 Productions, the BFI, FilmNation Entertainment and Riverstone Pictures, with production across Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 6.5 out of 10 from 91 reviews, while on TMDB it has a rating of 5.8 out of 10 from 129 votes, indicating a more mixed response from that audience.
