Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle

After humanity's failed attempt to settle a distant planet, the remaining settlers return to an Earth now ruled by Godzilla. Haruo Sakaki and his companions make contact with the Houtua, a tribe that has adapted to life on the changed planet, and the two groups must find a way to work together. Their search for a means to defeat Godzilla leads them toward the remains of Mechagodzilla, a robotic weapon believed lost for thousands of years.

The film is the second entry in an animated Godzilla trilogy. It was directed by Kobun Shizuno, the tenth of fourteen films in his directing career and the follow-up to Case Closed: The Crimson Love Letter, and by Hiroyuki Seshita, coming between Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters and Godzilla: The Planet Eater. Sadayuki Murai, Gen Urobuchi and Tetsuya Yamada wrote the screenplay, with Takashi Yoshizawa producing. Mamoru Miyano voices Haruo, alongside Yuki Kaji, Tomokazu Sugita, Takahiro Sakurai, Junichi Suwabe and Kana Hanazawa among a credited cast of twenty-seven.

Released in 2018 and running 101 minutes, the film sits slightly below the middle of audience opinion: it holds a 5.8 rating from roughly 6,200 votes on IMDb, while on TMDB it stands at 6.6 from about 400 votes.
