Banana Split is a comedy about April, a teenager reeling from a breakup with her high school boyfriend, Nick. Over the course of a summer, she unexpectedly forms a close friendship with Clara, the girl Nick is now seeing. The bond between the two young women becomes central to their lives, but the connection to Nick complicates things: one of them is dating the other's ex.
The film is directed by Benjamin Kasulke, working from a screenplay by Joey Power and Hannah Marks, who also stars as April. Liana Liberato plays Clara, and Dylan Sprouse appears as Nick. The cast also includes Luke Spencer Roberts, Meagan Kimberly Smith and Haley Ramm, with twenty credited actors in total. It was produced by Jeremy Garelick, Mickey Liddell and Will Phelps for American High and Burn Later Productions, and runs 88 minutes. It was released in September 2018.
The film's critical reception has been somewhat warmer than its audience scores. On IMDb it holds 6.2 out of 10 from around 4,100 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.6 out of 10 from 141 votes. The critics' rating stands at 6.9 out of 10 from 53 reviews, a more favourable figure than either audience measurement.
