Short description

A reporter and a promiscuous young woman try to solve a series of child killings in a remote southern Italian town rife with superstition and a distrust of outsiders.

What's left behind the scenes

The scandalous themes of the film and its criticism of the Roman Catholic Church led to limited distribution in Europe. Anchor Bay acquired the rights to the film only in 2000 and released it on DVD in the United States.
Director and screenwriter Lucio Fulci was arrested on charges of violating regulations regarding the filming of minors for a scene in which a nude Barbara Bouchet flirts with an underage character played by Marcello Tamborra. The charges were dropped after he explained that the actors were filmed separately in close-ups, and that in the scene where the boy walks with a pitcher toward Patricia, an adult actor, Don Semeraro (a dwarf who stood in for Tamborra), was used (if you look closely, you can notice that the character has a different face).
