Lucky and Zorba

An oil spill from a sinking ship leaves a seagull dying in a garden. Before she passes away, she convinces a cat named Zorba to make three promises: to protect her egg, to ensure it hatches, and to teach the resulting chick how to fly. Zorba and his feline companions raise the young bird, whom they name Lucky. As Lucky grows, she must come to terms with the fact that she is not a cat while helping her friends fight against a menacing rat and his followers.

Directed by Enzo D'Alò, this Italian animated family film was released on December 22, 1998. It is the first of three films directed by D'Alò, followed by Pinocchio in 2012 and A Greyhound of a Girl in 2023. The screenplay was written by D'Alò and Umberto Marino, with production handled by Vittorio Cecchi Gori and Rita Rusić. The voice cast includes Carlo Verdone as Zorba, Antonio Albanese as Grande Topo, and Melba Ruffo as Bobulina, with the character of Fortunata voiced across three stages of growth by Sofia Baratta, Veronica Puccio, and Domitilla D'Amico.
