The Golden Glove

The Golden Glove is a German crime drama set in Hamburg during the early 1970s. It centres on Fritz Honka, a night watchman who seems to most people like a pitiful loser. He spends his nights in a run-down neighbourhood bar in St. Pauli, among drinkers, prostitutes and other figures of the night, where he approaches lonely women. What those around him do not suspect is that this inconspicuous man with thick glasses is one of the most notorious serial killers of post-war Germany, and that the women who go home with him meet a violent end in his flat.

Fatih Akin directed the film and wrote the screenplay, working from Heinz Strunk's novel. It followed In the Fade in his filmography and came before Rhinegold. Jonas Dassler plays Honka, with Margarethe Tiesel, Katja Studt, Martina Eitner-Acheampong, Tristan Göbel and Greta Sophie Schmidt among the cast.

The film drew a mixed critical response, with a critics' rating of 5.6 out of 10 from 35 reviews, while audiences were somewhat more favourable: 6.7 out of 10 on IMDb from around 22,000 votes and 6.9 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller number of votes.
