Siobhán, a marine biology student, joins the crew of a West of Ireland trawler for a week at sea as part of her studies. She is set apart from the fishermen around her, and the distance between them matters once the vessel is stopped in the open Atlantic by an unknown life form. A contamination then moves through the boat, and the crew must confront a threat they cannot identify while Siobhán, with little seafaring experience, tries to earn their trust before they are lost one by one.
Neasa Hardiman wrote and directed the film, her first feature as director, with Brendan McCarthy and John McDonnell producing. Hermione Corfield plays Siobhán, alongside Ardalan Esmaili, Olwen Fouéré, Jack Hickey, Elie Bouakaze and Dougray Scott. The Irish-Belgian-Swedish-UK co-production runs 95 minutes and mixes drama, horror, mystery, science fiction and thriller.
On IMDb the film holds 5.7 from around 16,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.1 from roughly 650 votes. A critics' rating of 6.8 from 108 reviews places it above both audience scores, suggesting reviewers responded more positively than general viewers did.
