The Fall of the American Empire

Pierre-Paul Daoust, 36, holds a doctorate in philosophy but earns a living as a delivery driver. While making a delivery, he arrives at the scene of an armed robbery that has gone badly wrong, leaving two gangsters dead, and finds himself alone with two sports bags stuffed with millions in cash. He faces a choice: walk away empty-handed or take the money, and his decision draws the attention of both the police and the criminals who lost it. A former biker just out of prison and an escort become unlikely allies as he tries to keep the money and stay out of reach of everyone hunting it.

Denys Arcand directed and wrote the screenplay, with Denise Robert producing for Cinémaginaire. It is the fourth of the four features credited to Arcand in the facts, arriving after Gina, Stardom and The Barbarian Invasions. Alexandre Landry plays Pierre-Paul, alongside Maripier Morin, Rémy Girard, Louis Morissette, Maxim Roy and Pierre Curzi among a credited cast of 26.

Released on 28 June 2018, the Canadian production runs 127 minutes and blends comedy, crime, drama and thriller. It took about 4 million USD worldwide.
