After a vehicle accident leaves her unconscious, a teenage rock fan named Dorothy awakens in a harsh fantasy realm. She discovers that her arrival caused the death of a local criminal, leading to a pursuit by the deceased man's brother. Along her journey to attend a performance by an androgynous rock singer known as the Wizard, she is aided by a tailor called the Good Fairy, who gives her red shoes. Dorothy also forms alliances with a mechanic, a biker, and a surfer.
