Lizzie, a woman still shattered by the death of her infant daughter seven years earlier, is barely holding her life together. When she meets Lola, a young girl close in age to the child she lost, she becomes convinced the girl is her own. Her certainty hardens into obsession, and she pushes her way into the lives of Lola and her mother, Claire, while her grip on reality slips further.
Kim Farrant directed the film, which followed her 2015 debut Strangerland. Luke Davies and David Regal wrote the screenplay, and Noomi Rapace plays Lizzie opposite Yvonne Strahovski as Claire, with Luke Evans, Richard Roxburgh, Rachel Gordon and Finn Little among the cast. The Australian and American production was made by Screen Australia, Film Victoria, Garlin Pictures and SixtyFourSixty, and runs 98 minutes.
Angel of Mine drew a 6.7 out of 10 from 21 critics, a warmer response than it received from general audiences, where it holds 6.4 on IMDb from around 13,000 votes and 6.2 on TMDB from roughly 316 votes. The gap suggests critics found more in the psychological drama than many viewers did. Farrant's next feature, The Weekend Away, followed in 2022.
