To Catch a Killer is a crime thriller based on the true story of John Wayne Gacy. While Gacy appeared to be a helpful neighbor, a respected businessman, and a friendly entertainer for children, he lived a double life as a sadistic serial killer. The plot follows police inspector Joe Kozenczak as he investigates the disappearance of a teenager. His suspicions lead him to Gacy, who lured, assaulted, and murdered more than 30 young boys, burying many of them beneath his Chicago home.
Directed by Eric Till, this film followed his previous projects Shock-Trauma and Lighthouse Island, and preceded his 2003 film Luther. The movie was produced by Richard O. Lowry and written by Jud Kinberg. It features Brian Dennehy in the role of John Wayne Gacy, alongside Michael Riley, Margot Kidder, Meg Foster, Martin Julien, and Scott Hylands. A total of 55 actors are credited in the production, which was a joint effort between companies in Canada and the United States.
The film was released on May 15, 1992. It has received generally positive feedback from audiences, holding a rating of 7.3/10 on IMDb based on 3,100 votes and a 6.8/10 on TMDB from 62 votes.
