The Wedding Year

The Wedding Year is a comedy about Mara, a Los Angeles photographer in her late twenties who has built her life around her career and has no interest in settling down. That outlook is tested when she starts dating Jake, a chef who is ready for a serious commitment. When a stream of wedding invitations arrives over the course of a single year, the two attend one celebration after another, and Mara's feelings about marriage and about Jake are pushed to the surface.

Robert Luketic directed the film, which was written by Donald Diego and produced by Gary Lucchesi, Marc Reid Rubel and Mark Korshak. It is the eighth feature credited to Luketic, coming eighteen years after his first, Legally Blonde, and it returns him to the romantic-comedy territory of earlier films in that run. Sarah Hyland plays Mara and Tyler James Williams plays Jake, with Jenna Dewan, Matt Shively, Anna Camp and Noureen DeWulf among the supporting cast; forty-three actors receive credit.

The film runs 90 minutes and was released in September 2019. Audience response has been modest: on IMDb it holds a rating of 5.6 from around 4,000 votes, and on TMDB it has a 5.9 from 127 votes, a small sample that points to limited attention rather than strong enthusiasm.
