Kid Galahad

Boxing manager Nick Donati discovers a hotel bellhop who knocks out a heavyweight harassing Nick's girlfriend, Louise Phillips, and decides to turn the young man into a professional fighter under the name Kid Galahad. Nick's plans grow complicated by a rival promoter, and by the fact that the fighter attracts the attention of both Louise and Nick's sister Marie. Nick's jealousy over the situation leads him to arrange a fight he expects his protégé to lose.

Michael Curtiz directed the film, the eighth of the twenty-five features he made in chronological order, coming between Black Fury and The Adventures of Robin Hood. Seton S. Miller wrote the screenplay, and Samuel Bischoff produced it for Warner Bros. Edward G. Robinson plays Nick, with Bette Davis as Louise, Humphrey Bogart as Turkey Morgan, Wayne Morris as the fighter, Jane Bryan as Marie and Harry Carey as Silver Jackson. The credited cast runs to 103 names.

The film runs 102 minutes and mixes crime, drama and romance. On IMDb it holds a 7.2 rating from around 4,300 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.1 from a much smaller pool of 61 votes, a gap that suggests a modest but steady following rather than a broad contemporary audience.
