The Student

Valentine is an ambitious university student preparing for her final teaching exams at the Sorbonne. Her disciplined routine is interrupted when she begins a romantic relationship with a jazz musician named Ned. Despite their different lifestyles and conflicting schedules, including the musician's tour, the two develop a deep connection. Valentine must eventually balance her academic goals and the pressure of her studies with her feelings for Ned.

This French and Italian production was directed by Claude Pinoteau, who also directed The Party in 1980 and The Party 2 in 1982. The screenplay was written by Pinoteau and Danièle Thompson.
