The Intruder

A young married couple, Scott and Annie Russell, buy a house on a large plot of land in Napa Valley, believing they have found the ideal place to start a family. The seller, Charlie Peck, has spent his whole life on the property and struggles to walk away from it. At first he simply turns up uninvited to work in the garden, but his attachment to the house soon takes a more troubling form, and the couple come to see the man who still calls it his home as a threat.

The Intruder is a thriller directed by Deon Taylor, working from a screenplay by David Loughery. It was the eighth of the twelve films Taylor has directed, arriving between Black and Blue and Fatale in a run that began with Dead Tone in 2007. Dennis Quaid plays Charlie Peck, with Michael Ealy and Meagan Good as Scott and Annie, and Joseph Sikora, Alvina August and Erica Cerra in supporting roles.

Made for 8 million dollars by Screen Gems and Hidden Empire Film Group, the film took about 41 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its production cost. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6 out of 10 from 637 votes, while a film critics' rating stands at 4.4 out of 10 from 105 reviews, so audiences have received it more warmly than critics did.
