Christmas Flint is a young misfit growing up in rural Georgia in 1977. She lives with her father and dreams of traveling into outer space, a wish that seems out of reach until a national competition held by NASA offers the chance to have her voice included on the Golden Record carried into space. To enter, Christmas gathers an unlikely troop of Birdie Scouts, a group of girls who do not fit the usual mold, and the project gradually turns into a lasting friendship among them.
The film is directed by Bert and Bertie, working from a screenplay by Lucy Alibar. Mckenna Grace plays Christmas, with Viola Davis as Miss Rayleen, Jim Gaffigan as Ramsey Flint, Allison Janney as Miss Massey, Charlie Shotwell as Joseph and Milan Ray as Hell-No Price. It was produced by Steve Tisch, Viola Davis and Todd Black, among others, and runs 94 minutes. It is a comedy-drama with family elements, released in 2019.
Audience response has been generally favorable: on IMDb it holds a rating of 6.9/10 from around 13,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7/10 from roughly 315 votes. The gap in vote counts reflects a much larger sample on IMDb, but both point to a film that viewers have received positively rather than with strong enthusiasm.
