Gamera vs. Gyaos

Unusual volcanic activity near Mount Fuji rouses Gyaos, a giant bat-like creature that slept in a cave and now takes to the air. It can fire an ultrasonic beam from its mouth capable of cutting objects in two. The monster disrupts construction of an expressway, attacks a village and then strikes at larger cities, leaving scientists and the military searching for a way to stop it. A young boy named Eiichi, whose family runs a small inn, comes into contact with Gamera, the giant flying turtle that no one else trusts and that steps in against Gyaos.

The film is directed by Noriaki Yuasa from a screenplay by Nisan Takahashi, and produced by Hidemasa Nagata and Kazumasa Nakano for Daiei Film and Ex Productions. It follows Yuasa's Gamera, the Giant Monster (1965) as the second of four Gamera films he directed, ahead of Gamera vs. Guiron (1969) and Gamera vs. Jiger (1970). Kōjirō Hongō plays Foreman Shiro Tsutsumi, with Kichijirō Ueda, Reiko Kasahara, Naoyuki Abe, Taro Marui and Yukitaro Hotaru among the cast.

Released in Japan in March 1967 and running 86 minutes, the film drew modest scores from viewers, who rated it 5.2 on IMDb from about 2,800 votes and 6.1 on TMDB from a much smaller base of roughly 98 votes.
