A resident of Coria del Río named Paco Japan discovers he is the rightful heir to the throne of Japan following the death of Emperor Satohito. The connection dates back to 1614, when a royal descendant settled in the Spanish town and started a family. Paco and his relatives move to the Imperial Palace to prepare for his new role, leading to various comedic conflicts stemming from the linguistic and cultural differences between Andalusian and Japanese traditions.
Directed by Álvaro Díaz Lorenzo, this 2019 Spanish comedy was the first of two films listed in his career, followed by Virgins in 2025. The movie stars Dani Rovira as Paco Japón, alongside María León, Antonio Dechent, Cinta Ramírez, Iker Castiñeira, and Maya Murofushi.
Produced by companies including Atresmedia and Movistar+, the film had a budget of 8 million USD but earned 3 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception was generally poor, as reflected by a rating of 3.6/10 on IMDb based on 1,100 votes and a 4.4/10 on TMDB from 67 votes.
