Carol, Gillian and Helen are longtime friends living in the suburbs, and on Mother's Day they feel pushed aside by their grown sons. Acting on the impulse, the three women drive to New York City to show up unannounced, only to find that reconnecting with their children is less straightforward than they expected and that their own lives need rethinking too. The trip turns into a period of reassessment touching their roles as mothers, friends, partners and, above all, themselves.
Cindy Chupack directed the film, her feature debut behind the camera after a career writing for television, and she wrote the screenplay with Mark Andrus. Angela Bassett plays Carol, Patricia Arquette plays Gillian and Felicity Huffman plays Helen, with Jake Hoffman, Jake Lacy and Sinqua Walls as their sons. It is a British-American comedy produced by Welle Entertainment and Mandalay Pictures, running 100 minutes.
The film was released in August 2019. Its critical reception was poor, with a critics' rating on the order of 4 out of 10 across 28 reviews, while audiences have been more tolerant: on TMDB it holds a 6.1 average from 477 votes, a modest but noticeably warmer response than that of critics. Around two dozen performers are credited.
