Queen & Slim

Queen & Slim follows a Black man and woman whose uneventful first date in Ohio turns dangerous when a police officer stops them for a minor traffic violation. The encounter escalates, and Slim kills the officer in self-defense. Fearing for their lives, he and Queen, a criminal defense attorney, flee rather than turn themselves in. A video of the incident spreads, and the pair, who barely know each other, become a national symbol of grief, trauma and protest while they try to survive on the road.

Melina Matsoukas directs from a screenplay by Lena Waithe, who also produces. It is Matsoukas's second feature-length directing credit after Lemonade. Daniel Kaluuya plays Slim and Jodie Turner-Smith plays Queen, with Bokeem Woodbine, Sturgill Simpson, Flea and Chloë Sevigny in supporting roles. The film runs 132 minutes.

Released in November 2019, Queen & Slim cost about 20 million dollars and took roughly 48 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.1 from over 34,000 votes, and on TMDB it also scores 7.1. A critics' rating of 7.4 from 232 reviews puts it slightly ahead of those audience scores.
