Old Dolio has been raised by her parents, Theresa and Robert, as a partner in their petty cons rather than as a daughter. For twenty-six years the three have lived by small-time swindles and schemes, and the family's routine is upended when the couple bring a stranger named Melanie into a hastily arranged job. Melanie's warmth and openness throw Old Dolio's view of her parents and of the world they have built around her into confusion, and her place within the only family she knows comes into question.

Miranda July wrote and directed the film, her third feature as director following Me and You and Everyone We Know (2005) and Somebody (2014). Evan Rachel Wood plays Old Dolio, with Debra Winger and Richard Jenkins as her parents and Gina Rodriguez as Melanie; Patricia Belcher and Kim Estes also appear among a credited cast of 39. The production was handled by Plan B Entertainment and Annapurna Pictures, with Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Youree Henley producing.

Released in September 2020, the film took in roughly 1 million dollars worldwide, a modest return. Audiences rate it 6.4 out of 10 on IMDb from around 24,000 votes and 6.3 out of 10 on TMDB from 561 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 7.4 out of 10 from 213 reviews, noticeably higher than either audience measure.
