The Nest

Rory O'Hara, an ambitious entrepreneur and former commodities broker, uproots his American wife Allison and their two children from their comfortable suburban life in the United States and moves them to England, his country of birth, in the 1980s. He rents an old country manor with grounds where Allison can keep her horses, convinced that the move will bring new business opportunities and wealth. The family instead finds itself isolated in the English countryside, and the promise of a lucrative fresh start gives way to mounting strain as the couple confronts difficulties beneath the surface of their marriage.

Sean Durkin wrote and directed the film, his second feature after Martha Marcy May Marlene and before The Iron Claw. Jude Law plays Rory and Carrie Coon plays Allison, with Charlie Shotwell and Oona Roche as their children and Adeel Akhtar and Wendy Crewson in supporting roles. The film was produced by Andrew Lowe, Ed Guiney and Christina Piovesan for Element Pictures, BBC Film, Elevation Pictures and FilmNation Entertainment.

Released in 2020, The Nest runs 107 minutes and earned roughly 1 million USD worldwide, a modest return. Audiences have been more reserved than critics: on IMDb the film holds a 6.1 rating from 395 votes, while on TMDB it holds a critics' rating of 7.5 from 191 reviews, a noticeable gap between critical and audience response.
