Short description

While mainland Britain shivers in deepest winter, the northern island of Fara bakes in the nineties, and the boys at the Met station have no more idea what is going on than the regulars at the Swan. Only a stand-offish visting scientist realizes space aliens are to blame.

What's left behind the scenes

  • According to Christopher Lee (1922-2015), the film, which is about unprecedented heat, was filmed in the middle of winter. Actors and actresses had to be coated in glycerin to simulate sweat from the unbearable heat, and they had to freeze in light clothing due to the sub-zero temperatures.
  • The original script was rejected at the very last moment when it was decided that filming it was not feasible.
