Crazy Wedding

Vasyl Serediuk runs a small-town museum and takes pride in his family's standing. He sent his daughter Kateryna to study in France, and when she announced she was marrying a French heart surgeon named François, he told everyone in the region about the family's European choice. His enthusiasm collapses when he meets the groom and finds that François is of African origin. Unable to accept the match but unwilling to break with his daughter, Vasyl settles on a scheme: throw himself into arranging the wedding while quietly working to make sure it never takes place.

The Ukrainian comedy Crazy Wedding was released in October 2018 and runs ninety minutes. It was directed by Vlad Klymchuk, who had previously made The Choice in 2016 and Infoholic in 2017, and who went on to direct The Best Weekend in 2022. Oleksii Prykhodko and Mykola Kutsyk wrote the screenplay. Nazar Zadniprovskyi plays Vasyl, with Lesia Samaieva as his wife Halyna and Polina Vasylyna as Kateryna; Jimmy Woha Woha plays François, and Oleksandr Kobzar and Vira Kobzar appear as Taras and Oksana. The film took about two million dollars worldwide, a solid result for a Ukrainian production of its kind. On TMDB it holds a rating of six out of ten from roughly thirty-two votes, indicating modest viewer approval.
