Love, Antosha is a documentary about Anton Yelchin, the American actor of Russian descent who died in June 2016 at a young age. Rather than a conventional celebrity tribute, the film builds its portrait from his own journals and other writings, the photographs he took, and the original music he composed, alongside interviews with the people closest to him. His parents, Viktor Yelchin and Irina Korina, appear in the film, as do colleagues and friends from the industry. Nicolas Cage narrates. The result is as much a study of Yelchin as a person and a creator as it is a survey of a busy career in film and television.
Garret Price directed, with Adam Gibbs and Drake Doremus producing. It is the first of the two features Price has directed to date, followed in 2024 by a documentary about yacht rock. The credited cast numbers 29, and among those interviewed on camera are Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pine, reflecting the range of people Yelchin worked with.
Made in the United States and running 92 minutes, the documentary was released in August 2019. On IMDb it holds 8.1 out of 10 from around 1,900 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.4 out of 10 from a much smaller group of 61 voters. The gap between the two suggests a small but strongly appreciative audience that came to the film specifically for its subject.
