The Death of Dick Long

Dick has died overnight in a small Alabama town, and his friends Zeke and Earl would rather nobody learn how it happened. The two men, who have families and grown-up responsibilities but still chase the carefree fun of their younger days, try to cover up their part in the night's events. News travels quickly in a place that size, though, and the questions keep closing in: Zeke's wife and daughter grow suspicious, and a local police officer starts looking into the death.

Daniel Scheinert directed the film, working from a screenplay by Billy Chew. It followed his earlier features Happy Holidays and Swiss Army Man, and came before Everything Everywhere All at Once and an untitled 2027 project. Michael Abbott Jr. plays Zeke, with Andre Hyland as Earl, Virginia Newcomb as Lydia Olsen, Sarah Baker as Officer Dudley, Jess Weixler as Jane Long and Poppy Cunningham as Cynthia Olsen. The film runs 100 minutes and was produced by A24.

It is a comedy with crime and drama elements, released in September 2019. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.1 out of 10 from 189 votes.
